I'd like to welcome each of you to my virtual web site. There should
be useful information available for all of my courses on this site. I encourage all students and parents to feel free
to email or phone any concerns you may have of your student's progress.
Briefly, I'd like to share a little about my background. After
beginning high school in Ohio, my family moved to southern California where I received my High School Diploma. I went on to
complete my Bachelor of Science Degree from Youngstown State University and my Master of Science Degree in Science from
Kent State University in Ohio. The invaluable aspect of my science training is that my degrees required science classes
in all of the science disciplines: biology, chemistry, physics, as well as the earth sciences, math through calculus,
and a foreign language.
Both my undergraduate degree and graduate degree was in Geology. Over
the years I have developed an many interests and broadened my knowledge base in computers, astronomy, meteorology,
and oceanography. During my career in education, I have enjoyed teaching students at the middle
school, high school and college levels and over the years, I have taught courses in Geology, Earth Science, Physical
Geography, Physical Science, Oceanography, Meteorology, Astronomy, Chemistry,
Biology, and Physics.
Duing my career, I have been a member of many of professional
science organizations (for example, the Geological Society of America, American Geophysical Union, American Astronomical Society),
and for years have been involved in the Colorado Science Convention and the National Science Teachers Convention.
In these organizations, and during the summers, I have taken the opportunity
to further my education and professional development through seminars offered by many national leaders in science and
classroom instruction. Outside of class, I have coached football, track, volleyball, and wrestling as well
as supervised science, astronomy, and computer clubs.
Fortunately for my students and myself, not only have I been a classroom teacher, but I have
also worked full time for nearly eight years as a petroleum geologist in both Houston and Denver. This experience
has given me a rich perspective as a "working scientist" since much of my employment experience has involved applied
research and field work.
My wife and I have raised our family in Ohio, Texas, and Colorado. We
have lived in Centennial for twenty-four years. We are parents to two married sons, both of whom are employed
in the computer field. About three years ago, we adopted our pet bird, a gold-crowned Conure (parrot) we named Pazzazz.
We tease our children that because of the longivity of parrots, she'll be in our will.
I find extensive enjoyment from seeing and experiencing the world
through the eyes of a scientist. I enjoy being outdoors - especially being involved in rock, mineral, and fossil collecting.
We are also avid campers. I enjoy fishing, canoeing, photography, traveling, playing the guitar, gardening, as well as viewing
and taking deep space photos of the night skies through a telescope. While raising our children, we were active scouters
for 10 years. I hope my students enjoy viewing a
portion of my rock, mineral, and fossil collection, which is displayed in the display cabinets in room 321.
