                                  columns using correlation skills for two sets of 4
                                  outcrops and students drew 4 complex outcrops
                                  and using the labeled drawings, put each event
                                  into relative time position:  this included erosion,
                                  intrusions, uplift, subsidence, tilting.

                                  is the last day to read chapter 18 before a new
                                  reading assignment is posted.  Use the syllabus

                    Handout: Investigation 20 What Do You Measure in a
                              Topographic Field.
                    Collected: Paleogeography Activity
                    Classwork:  We finished going over the paleogeography
                              activity packet.  This packet focused on how
                              rock characteristics indicate specific environments
                              and how these environments can be mapped and
                              boundaries can be drawn to show the ancient
                              geography represented by time equivalent rocks.
                              We also explained Offlap (regression) and Onlap
                              (transgression) can be shown by a systematic
                              fining upward or coarsening upward sedimentary
                              sequence. 
                              During class students were explained how to do
                              build the 3-D topographic map model and how to
                              follow the procedure building the model before
                              answering the questions.
                     Homework:  Read chapter 2, p 22-41 plus p423-424 for
                              September 11th

                     Handout:  How to draw an Accurate Profile of the Earth's
                               Surface, Investigation 21.

                               from yesterday to deal with any "confusion". In
                               everything about the lab was explained.

                    Classwork:  We discussed the answers for Investigation 20 and
                            explained how to use lat/longitude to locate things on the map
                            Discussed the concept of Contour Interval and Index contours
                            and the answers to the contour value practice figures on the
                            class activity WS, then the profiling method was explained.
                    Homework:  Draw the profiles for the contour practice sheet then
                             apply the concepts to help those who had trouble completing
                             the vertical profile homework for today.

                 Classwork: Returned Contour Values Practice and Vertical Profiles
                         Practice WS aster grading them last night.  Several didn't finish
                         them after I went over the elevations in class.  Profiles were
                         poorly done.  Everyone needs to bring up their work quality-the
                         work needs to be done well, not carelessly.  Anyone wanting to
                         improve their grade on this assignment will need to come in
                         tomorrow  during help session to redo the mistakes.
                         In  class today we went over the Littleton Quadrangle Map Proj
                         corrections should be made and turned. We went over the
                         contour rules during class.
                Homework: complete the assignment on the Contour Rules paper;
                         then do the parts of the packet that require work to be done for
                         Friday classtime.  Read  the chapter 2 Minerals assignment
                         due Thursday.  Quiz topographic maps, contours, vertical
                         profiles Friday.

             Classwork: Finished explaining "other properties" Usinig the camera
                      several were demonstrated, such as fluoresence, crystal habit,
                      magnetism, specific gravity.  Also explained how to use the
                      physical geology lab manual made available to all who are working
                      on the mineral identification lab as a resource and guide.
                      Students began identifying minerals in pairs during class working
                      on the mineral samples set out on the back table, the physical
                      properties described on the handouts from yesterday.
                      DO NOT BREAK SAMPLES; No need to do specific gravity on
                      each mineral sample.  Clean up at the end of lab.
            Homework: continue reading chapter 3.  We'll work on the minerals
                      during class, identifying all of them.

                            is due today..  We went to the computer lab for students to complete
                            the chapter 7 on-line test and email it to me.

                           pre-activity instructions about how to illustrate and describe the
                           seasonal changes in the ground water table for the activity.
                          During class students worked on illistrating the changing conditions
                          and details of seasonal changes in the ground water levels in ponds
                          and wells and labeling the details and dates as contained in the
                          Groundwater Problem handout.
               Homework: Students are to complete the groundwater problem project-
                          including answering the questions and completing the labeled
                          and dated drawing that illustrates the detains contained in the
                          narrative.  Test will be rescheduled for Tuesday.
