19. v = f x wavelength

= 2 Hz x 3m = 6 m/s

20. v = f x wavelength

= 2 Hz x 12 m + 24 m/s

21. a. wavelength = velocity / f = 3 x 108 m/s / 530,000 Hz = 570 m

b. wavelength = v / f = 3 x 108 m/s / 6 x 1014 Hz = 5 x 10-7 m

c. wavelength = v / f = 3 x 108 m/s / 3 x 1018 H = 1 x 10 -10 m

22 x 109 Hz to 3 x 1011 Hz;

f = v / wavelength = 3 x 108 m/s / 1 mm x 1000 mm/1m = 3 x 1011 Hz

f = v / wavelength = 3 x 108 m/s / 30 cm x 100 cm / 1 m = 1 x 109 Hz

f range = 1 x 109 Hz to 3 x 1011 Hz

23.
Both sounds will reach your ear at the same time. The speed of sound in a given medium is constant.

24 You see the bat strike the ball before you hear the crack of the bat because the spped of light is much faster than the speed of sound. The light from the bat reaches your eyes almost instantly, but the sound takes a discernable, although small, time to reach your ears.
25 As a fire truck approaches, the pitch of the siren is higher than it would be if the fire truck were at rest. However, the pitch of the truck does not change noticeably until the fire truck is passing right in front of you, when the pitch rapidly drops. In fact, as the truck approaches, the pitch from the siren is always dropping to some degree.
27. a. Drawings should have three crests (high points), two trought (low points) and twice as large (tall) as the waves shown.
b. Drawings should show a straight line (the waves completely cancel each other.)
