                 tracking sheet with the returned homework;  explained ionosphere
                 Short video clips history of ancient earth emphasizing the formation of
                 the atmosphere. Demonstrated Stromatolites.
                 We went over the correct answers for 18-1, collect tomorrow.
        Homework: Read 6.3 p 199-206, p 206 Questions 1-4; p 199 Define 5 key

         Classwork: discussion formation of gases used to make acid rain,

           Classwork:  finished the test from Friday, did the prelab questions 1 & 2
                   did the minilab experiment involving trials, averages, and data base
                   construction, finding average speed and momentum after massing
                   the marble. 
            Homework:  Chapter 8.1 homework from last week is due Tuesday.NO
                   LATE WORK is accepted.  There will be a quiz this Friday about
                   speed, velocity, momentum.

           Handout:  Lab Velocity and Momentum
           Collected: 8.1 p255 Problems, p257 Problems, p 258 Q &
                    Problems PreLab Velocity and Momentum
           Classwork:  Some students finished the weather test, others
                    completed the prelab velocity and Momentum, others
                    began the planning for and calculations for the Velocity
                    and Momentum Lab which was explained to everyong.
                    The basics of the problem is for the to roll a marble down
                    an inclined plane, calculate the average velocity, velocity
                    at the bottom of the ramp and calculate the time it would
                   take for the marble to reach a point 1.52 m from the bottom
                    of the ramp on the horizontal counter top.  We need the
                    total time to travel the length of the ramp and the 1.52 m
                   from the end of the ramp.
                   In class I gave student the correct answers for the
                   homework for them to check and specifically went over a
                   problem or two from each problem set.
            Homework:  Read 8.2 p 260-266, define 6 key words, p 260
                     math skills 1-6 and p 267 Q 1-5 plus Math Skills 7-8.  Due
                     Monday NO LATE WORK ACCEPTED. Students who
                     missed the weather test or didn't complete the Prelab are
                     to come in Wednesday for make up.

             Classwork: We went over how to calculate velocity, and
                       acceleration and how to calculate graph line interval
                        values and labeling axes with title and units as well as
                        how to graph acceleration on the grid by setting up a
                        mid-point on the grid and assigning + va;lues above
                        the mid-point and - values below the line.  Be sure you
                        use the total lapsed time for the horizontal axis with
                        time in seconds.
               Homework:  Work on the 8.3 assignment for Thursday.  It
                        was decided that the test will be the week after the
                        CSAP is finished and will cover 8,2 and 8.3 plue retest

                        During class, using the overhead we went over all of
                        problems for section 8.3 and the chapter review. and
                        in several classes finished up going over the math

                            Grades updated and include the chapter 8 test, ch 8
                            mixed review, 8.2 & 8.3 Reviews and the acceleration
                            lab and completed graphs.
                            In class, we added a data table to the lab with 9
                             columns and subdivided the back calculator page and
                             added equations to be used to calculate: Force weight
                             Work, Power, Horsepower.  We also did the power
                              point covering work, power, horsepower.  Finally
                              students did the timing of the stairs power/HP lab &
                              measured their own mass in kg to be converted to N
                              for the force used to do the work, measured and
                              counted the steps between the 1st and 3rd floors.

                    Classwork:  Talked about how to calibrating a spring scale
                              Talked about open systems and input energy and
                               output energy. Presented the difference between
                               work being done against gravity and work being
                               done that is not against gravity.  We did the
                               1st class lever lab together and the second class
                               lever lab was started.

                              solutions, we went over all formulas, the units that are used in each
                              and the unit each term is measured in - several of them had multiple
                              units and multiple formulas.  We also went over how to build a formula
                              wheel and how to derive alternate formulas from the base equations.
                              Demonstrated the use of a solenoid, and  a magnet with a
                              radio/tape player can be used to make anything that vibrates into a
                              speaker.  Warned them NOT to do this at home because of the 
                              frictional resistance of the coil and the production of heat that can
                              result and the risk of house fire.
                  Homework: Finish the study guide for chapter 5, 6 and 18 for Friday. and

Classwork  Problem of the Day - Tuesday&nbsp; The period of the wave is 0.25 sec and the frequency is 4 sec, what is the velocity of the wave if its wavelength is 0.5 m.  In class we wnet over 3 calculations for the Wave Spring Activity and using the overhead and calculator projector we did the problems and answered the analysis questions. We also went over the problems in the section review for 11.1, the practice problems p370 and began the 11.2 review questions.
